Rila mountain, one of the points of pride of Bulgarian nature, attracts with its high peaks and crystal clear lakes. Legends say that mysterious places are hidden in its mountain forests, where the ancient Bulgarians worshiped the gods in ancient times.
Rila is a mountain massif in southeastern Bulgaria, known for its beautiful nature and rich history. In the following lines, I will share some of the legends associated with Rila:
Legend of the Rila Monastery:
One of the most famous legends related to Rila is that of the founding of the Rila Monastery. According to her, Saint Ivan Rilski (St. Ivan Rilski) hides in the mountains, where he asks God for the solitude and salvation of his soul. Legend has it that angels helped him build the monastery, and the saint himself lived in solitude and asceticism.
Legend of the Rila Lakes:

According to another legend, Rila and Shar Planina competed for beauty. The gods decided to test them and see which mountain would stand higher. Rila was so beautiful that the Gods decided to make her eternal and relieve her of the weight of snow. Since then, it is believed that Rila is always covered with snow, while Shar Mountain bears the brunt of the cold.
Legend of "Kaloto of the Rila Miracle Worker":
In Mount Rila, called "Kaloto", the body of Saint Ivan Rilski is preserved. Legend has it that when the monastery was threatened by invaders, the saint appeared on horseback and protected the sanctuary with his present vision.
Legend of the Rila Grandmothers:
